Team Rankings Round Four

I know I said that I wasn't going to do another round of team rankings but, I decided to do the rankings anyway because the best teams don't always win state and it's interesting to rate the divisions against each other. I also haven't done player rankings in a long time and I will try to get back on top of that as I've really been slacking on my posting as of late. One nice thing is since I haven't seen any players or teams in awhile I can start over fresh with my thinking. It's always said what you've seen most recent you give the most credit. Reminder I only rank the teams that I have seen play and only taking the games that I have seen into consideration.

Overall
1. Madison Memorial- Yes I know that they didn't win state but, I still believe that they were the best team in the state and played one of their worst games of the year in the championship game. They were playing some of their best basketball with about five games remaining in the regular season and continued that through the playoffs until the imploded against Arrowhead. Have the most talent, athleticism, and can actually shoot the three ball this year. I feel if they player Arrowhead 10 times they would win seven of them.
2. Arrowhead- They won state for division one and they've got everything in their arsenal. They have a lightning quick point guard in 6'0 senior Andy Fox, an outside sharp shooter in 6'3 junior Charlie Fischer, and a big man in the middle with 7'1 senior Ben Mills. Mills is a difference maker with his size and Fox can handle the pressure as good as anyone in the state.
3. Madison East- They have 6'4 senior Marquis Mason and 6'0 junior Nimrod Hillard who are both top five players in each of their classes. Memorial was just the better team at the end of the year and probably should of lost to them twice and would of had a very tough time matching up with Mills with Arrowhead. I still question the rest of their team outside of the big two.
4. Milwaukee Hamilton- Yes I know Marquette beat them at state but, in that game Hamiltion dominated throughout the first three quarters before Marquette got hot and Hamilton decided to stop scoring before the game was over. They are the most talented team in the state as the player rankings show. Next year if they play team basketball and don't settle for the outside shots state is theirs.
5. Milwaukee Marquette- 6'6 junior John Kopriva is very tough on the inside and was very impressive in both his games battling against the bigger defenders in particular Mills. They have two great athletes on the outside with 6'3 senior Marvin Paine and 5'11 junior Quentin Calloway. They are also a very disciplined team that doesn't seem to get frustrated late in games or when things aren't going their way.
6. Waukesha Catholic Memorial- 6'4 TJ Bray was Mr. Basketball and 6'1 senior Derek Schell is a very good sidekick. I'm still very surprised that they beat Arrowhead twice during the year but, I didn't see those games and they were conference games where the teams know each other very well and are usually games that are fairly intense. I just seem them struggling against teams with size and athleticism.
7. Racine St. Catherines- I truly believe that these guys could play with anyone in the state. They are just so athletic, very disciplined, rebound well, and play great defense. Their point guard 6'2 senior Steve McWhorter is a great leader and may be the best on the ball defender in the state. With McWhorter running the show I think they would be very tough to press and have the athleticism to battle bigger teams.
8. Racine Park- Really love to pressure teams and you need to have a very good point guard to beat this team. Their top five guards are very good which allows them to some constantly. Have seven players that could go for double figures on any given night.
9. Milwaukee Washington- Extremely athletic team that has the height and size to battle with anyone. 6'4 junior Quevyn Winters is usually the best player on the court. 5'11 senior Terry Taylor is a solid point guard that is very quick with the ball in his hands and also have lots and lots of depth on this team.
10.Northwestern- Have lots of size and really look to post they big man 6'8 senior Donnie Hissa and 6'5 senior Steve Tecker is a D1 recruit. Run their offense from the inside out which gives them open three point shots which they can knock down.
11. Sun Prairie- Team that really plays to their opponents level. They'll take the good teams right to the wire and will let the bad teams hang around with them. Rely heavily on the three point shot and have a lot of guys that can shoot them. Don't get flustered in big games and really come to play.
12. Milwaukee King- Another team with loads of talent that can go 12 deep and not lose a thing. Probably a year away from doing real damage.
13. Waunakee- After watching Waunakee struggle against Washington I believe they would really struggle against an athletic team that will pressure them. I still think they will beat Sun Prairie in the playoffs.
14. Randolph- Senior 6'10 Kyle Kelm is the best big man in the state in my opinion. This team doesn't wow you but, they just play very disciplined, rebound well, and play great defense. They do a great job of running their offense through Kelm, pass the ball great, and hit the open shots when their there. Just a very good team overall.
15. Appleton East- Were much improved from when I saw them earlier in the year. 6'7 sophomore Sam Mader is the biggest reason as he has really become a great all around player. They still rely on the three point shot but, when a team hits their threes they can play with anyone.
16. Oak Lawn Richards Ill- Run the court very very well and can score in a hurry. Knock down the three very well in transition.
17. Port Washington- Very disciplined team that has a star in Josh Gasser but, they don't need to rely on him every game to get the win.
18. Verona- Really seem to be peaking at the right time. Rebound very well and play great defense. Sam Karls appears to be that go to guy for them.
19. Waupun- Solid team overall that has the most impressive scorer that I've seen in Austin Armga.
20. Monroe- Just like every other Monroe team. They move extremely well without the ball, play very hard, and shoot the three very well. Unlike Monroe's of the past this team has some height.
21. Hamiliton Sussex- Another team that is extremely deep. Can go 12 deep with out losing much and every guy on the deep can hit the three point shot.
22. Antigo- 6'3 senior Jordan Mach is a big time scorer but, worry that they rely on him too much. Run a very deliberate offense and rebound very well.
23. Eau Claire Regis- 6'2 junior Connor Miller is a big time player and is very impressive. 6'7 junior Steven Hofacker is a beast on the inside and 6'3 Adam Ganske does alittle bit of everything.
24. Middleton- Rebound very well with their overall team height advantage. If Matt Everson is on they could be trouble for some teams.
25. Beloit- Very athletic team with eight very solid players. If you pack it in can probably beat them though

Division Two
1. Waukesha Catholic Memorial
2. Northwestern
3. Port Washington
4. Waupun
5. Monroe
6. Sauk Prairie- Don't hit a lot of threes but, seem to really knock them down in the clutch. Really control the tempo of the game and have some nice big guys that can hit the jumpers.
7. Valders- Great rebounding team that looks like a bunch of football players playing basketball, which is a good thing in this case. Pound the glass and run their offense very well.
8. Kiel- Very tough team that shoots the three ball very well. Rely heavily on their top two players it seemed though.
9. Prairie du Chien- Very balanced team that has a lot of scorers. Very guard oriented and like to shoot the outside shot but, have a 6'6 guy they can throw it into if they want.
10. Reedsburg- Chad Mazur is a great great player but, they lack overall team talent. Jordan Van Cleave and Jon Stolte are solid role players.

Wisconsin Dells

Division Three
1. Racine St. Catherines
2. Eau Claire Regis
3. Blair Taylor- Rebound very very well and don't really get frustrated just keep playing tough.
4. Poynette- 6'2 senior Cody Odegaard is a stud and 6'3 Adam Ray helps out too. Both kids can really shoot the ball.
5. Brillion- Shoot the three very well but, really lacks height. Basically playing with five guards at all times. Rely too much on the three.

Division Four
1. Randolph
2. Green Bay NEW Lutheran- Very good D4 team just didn't have the height to battle Randolph. 5'11 Kaylor Zimmerman is really a star.
3. Clayton- Very solid fundamentally sound team with the big man 6'4 senior Taylor Dayton in the middle.
4. Green Lake- Start three guys at 6'4 or taller and they are all very athletic.
5. Royal- They were at state so I guess there good but, didn't show much at state.
6. New Lisbon- Not a very impressive team but, only other D4 team that I saw play.

Well I will do my best to work on my player rankings tomorrow but, it will take me a while due to the fact that I really haven't updated the rankings in a while so I have a lot of games to look through and review.
