Took a drive up to Tomah to get a chance to watch La Crosse Central play for the second time this year. Throw in the fact that Tomah had recent beaten some tougher top half teams in conference and I thought this had a chance to be a decent game.
The game was a decent game. Central didn't dominate this game by one bit and the final score of 69 to 52 is much worse then what the game actually was. Early on Central didn't have a ton going but, neither did Tomah. Probably the tipping point in the first half was the early foul trouble of Tomah big man 6'8 senior Josh Dahlke who picked up two early fouls and spent much of the first 10 minutes of the game on the bench. Dahlke's foul trouble allowed Central to really work it into their big man 6'7 sophomore Terrence Thompson. Thompson thrived in the first half catching the ball on the right block and then finishing going to his right. Even when Dahlke did come back in he didn't guard Thompson to avoid the third foul.Throw in a pair of threes from Central sharpshooter 5'10 junior David Hayden and that was most of Central's offense. On the other end Tomah was able to find their shooters in the corners and it seemed like each player on the court took their chance hitting a three.
In the second half Tomah looked like they were really going to push Central as their point guard 6'2 senior Kyle Kroener got going as he was able to drive to the right and finish or seemed to find himself wide open from three. Kroeners success teamed with Dahlke finally getting on the score board after going score less in the first half. For Central their super sophomore 6'5 twins Jordan and Johnny Davis got themselves going driving to the middle of the Tomah defense and finishing from mid range and in. It seemed like the Davis's played with a little more energy and they took turns hitting the jumper and then driving to the rim. Johnny was probably a little more aggressive on the two and found himself at the line a bit more. When things really got to crunch time Central turned the defense up a bit and Tomah turned the ball over and took some bad shots which led to some run outs by Central and caused the score to be where it was at the end.
Top Players
Terrence Thompson 6'7 sophomore LaCrosse Central- Really did a nice job of scoring in the post from that left block as I mentioned earlier. Really showed a nice touch in the post.
Johnny Davis 6'5 sophomore LaCrosse Central- Did a great job of just putting his head down and driving to the rim and scoring or getting fouled.
Kyle Kroener 6'2 senior Tomah- Central couldn't stop him going to his right also showed the ability to step back and hit the three as well.
Josh Dahlke 6'8 senior Tomah- I'd like to see him in the post a little more but, he did a good job of moving without the ball and playing off his team mates. Hit a nice three right in the face of Thompson.
Box Score
Central 69- Thompson 20 Joh Davis 16 Jor Davis 9 Hayden 9 Noah Parcher 8 De'Andre Davis 4 Brecken Auston 3 Clayton Phillips 0 Jacob Servais 0
Tomah 52- Kroener 23 Dahlke 14 Trevor Shutter 5 Peter Brey 4 Mason Brandt 3 Mason Gerke 3 Trey Gnewikow 0
Central deffinetly has a chance to make some noise come playoff time as far as a state run goes but, they could just as easily get upset early on. Central lacks the shooting you really need in the half court setting and if they can't get out and run their scoring really struggles. Tomah is on the other side a team that probably won't go to far in the playoffs but, they have a chance to upset a team or two.
