Wisconsin Dells over Mauston

In a game that should of been decided who won the South Central conference, the Wisconsin Dells chiefs won going away to more then likely seal up the conference title. This game should of been a very good match up but, unfortunatly Mauston was without their star playing Joel Heesch. Evidently Heesch has two blood clots in his lungs and will miss the remainder of the season.

Wisconsin Dells was back to their patented 1-2-2 zone defense and without Heesch Mauston really couldn't do anything against the zone. Mauston would get the ball inside and just seemed afraid or unwilling to take the shot and not even look at the hoop. The Golden Eagles were very content to just pass the ball around the perimeter until someone took a shot. The lone highlights for Mauston was the play of Garrett Manthe and Hunter Nelson who did show some ability late to get inside and score but, at that point the game was basically inside.

For whatever reason Mauston's defense was to leave shooters open outside and it played right into the Chief's hands as they were able to hit eight threes in the games. Wisconsin Dells did what they have been doing as of late. Get a huge lead and then coast the rest of the game. First half they hit the threes and then in the second half it was the Shane Wimann show. Wimann was saddled with foul trouble in the first half and barely saw the court but, he made up for it late and had a game high 15. Wimann showed some real domination on the inside and even was able to hit a three point shot. Also appears as Mike Dickman is starting to come around as he had four three point shots in the game. If Dickman can become a solid third scorer for the Chiefs that will make them even tougher to beat in the playoffs.

Top Players
Garrett Manthe 6'4 senior Mauston- Really showed a nice mid range shot and the ability to reboudn strong.
Hunter Nelson 6'3 senior Mauston- Showed alot of energy and hustle in the game and was able to find openings in the zone and score.
Shane Wimann 6'4 senior Wisconsin Dells- As I said earlier he was a beast in the paint and took his game out to the three point line even.
Mike Dickman 5'8 senior Wisconsin Dells- Really showed off the long range shooting hitting those four threes.
Colyn Buss 6'2 senior Wisconsin Dells- Really is the unsung player on this Dells team. Doesn't always score a bunch but, he doesn't make mistakes and really sets up his team mates nicely for easy buckets.

Well congrats to the Chiefs and it really appears that they are poised to make that state run. They will once again have Lodi standing in their way though.
