Went down to Sun Prairie to watch them take on a fellow top 10 team in Bay Port. When you get a top team from out of the area to come close to home I always like to get out and watch them play because otherwise I'll never see them.
Early on this was the Jalen Johnson show. The 6'8 sophomore had three dunks in the first eight minutes of the game. Johnson had a nice little two handed dunk off a loose ball that just found him, came off a curl in the half court received the pass and after a power dribble finished it off hard with the one handed dunk, and punctuated it all with a break away windmill dunk. Johnson even had a little shoulder shrug moment when he went one on one with Bay Port big man 6'8 senior Jack Plumb, when he pulled up from mid range and banked the shot in. Speaking of Plumb he had a bit of a tough start dealing with the speed of the game but, he got going late in the first half as it really showed that Johnson isn't comfortable defending in the post at this time. Plumb uses his size and soft touch to score around Johnson. Bay Port also shot the three ball extremely well led by 6'2 senior Lucas LaMue off bench who hit three threes in the first half. Outside of Johnson the usual suspect 6'4 senior Marlon Ruffin did his thing. Ruffin looked to drive the lane and showcased a nice floater in this game.
In the second half it looked like Sun Prairie might blow this game open but, they kind of let their foot off the gas and allowed Bay Port to get back in the game. Plumb continued to be unstoppable in the post and then point guard 5'11 senior Deeland Phillips got things going driving to the left and finishing and getting fouled. All night long whenever it looked like Sun Prairie might break away Bay Port was able to get a huge three. For Sun Prairie Ruffin and Johnson continue to due their thing scoring. Ruffin was slashing to the rim and Johnson was the post presence. In the end Sun Prairie was just too athletic for Bay Port.
Top Players
Jack Plumb 6'8 senior Bay Port- Just a force in the paint that couldn't be stopped. Looks like stereotype football player with the soft touch and soft hands around the rim.
Deland Phillips 5'11 senior Bay Port- Was the quickest player tonight on the court driving to the rim and finishing through contact.
Lucas LaMue 6'2 senior Bay Port- Just couldn't miss from three point range as he came off the bench gunning in this one.
Jalen Johnson 6'8 sophomore Sun Praire- I've already said it all. There are some very talented seniors this year so next year he will be the top player in the state. Showcased the ball handling mid range shot, and showed he could get his shot off at any time.
Marlon Ruffin 6'4 senior Sun Prairie- Just one of the most superior athletes in the state. Can get where he wants at any time and get his shot at any time. Ruffin hit the three and showcased a floater in this game.
Sun Prairie really should end their season at state but, things don't seem to ever work out that way for Sun Prairie. Bay Port could be a state team if things fall their way. They are a very good team.
