Division Two Preseason Rankings

Division two may see the biggest shake up in regards to the switch to five divisions. The majority of the top division two schools have remained in the division and meanwhile some pretty good small division ones have moved down. In the past D2 has always been one of the least entertaining games at state but, this year is shaping up to be a very interesting state. The questions comes down to will the old traditional powers continue to dominate D2 or will the new powers take control. Here are my preseason rankings...

1.Seymour- Always traditionally strong team have two true scholarship players in Phil Romback and Calahan Skogman as well as a very talented and experienced senior class.
2. Waunakee- Have had some very good teams in the past but, always had some very good Madison Memorial teams standing in their way. They will benefit from moving down a division and have one of the top backcourts in the state in Beau Murray and Jared Staege.
3. Onalska- Probably a year away from a state title but, they have a D1 college player in 6'8 junior Nick Arenz and a very good sophomore class they should help them push for a strong tournament run and possibly even state run.
4. Monroe- Have one of the best coaches and run their offense extremely well. Also have one of the best backcourts with Brian Tordoff and Michael Barret. Love to shoot the three ball and shoot it well.
5. Merrill- Honestly don't know much about this team but, they have the #1 ranked senior in the state in Paul Jesperson so, that should count for something.
6. Madison Edgewood- Strong junior class led by Austin Arians who should have a big year and solid point guard in Spencer Brink. Coach Zwettler always gets the most out of his team.
7. Rice Lake- Junior Wally Ellenson appears posed to be a real star and have some talented teammates Alex Cuskey and younger brother Ellwood Ellenson. Play bigger schools during the regular season which should benefit them.
8. Wisconsin Lutheran- Always have a tough team and are another team that should benefit from playing some very tough competition during the regular season. Haven't seen him but, sounds like Terry Nash is the real deal at the point.
9. Kaukauna- A very tough team out of the Fox Valley Association that has had some great teams in the past that haven't been able to reach state in D1 but, will benefit greatly with the drop down. Won the FVA a year ago.
10. Baraboo- Honestly could of gone to any of the HM teams but, they return four starters so went with them.

Well those are my initial rankings for D2 and once again I have shown favoritism to teams and players that I have seen, particularly in the all-state department. Well hopefully will be getting my additional rankings in the next few days before I actually go and see any games.
